Hornby Helpline
Hornby Helpline offers all sorts of help to any villager living in Hornby and Farleton who needs it, and since it was formed in 2008 has responded to over 2,500 requests for assistance.
The helpline consists of 6 co-ordinators and 48 volunteers who are DBS checked and give their time freely. (However, we do ask you to pay 30p per mile for any transport outside of the village which just covers the cost of the volunteers’ petrol so that they are not out of pocket.)
We all have times in our lives that run smoothly and others that really do not. On the smaller scale, when the computer refuses to do what we want it to do, or a curtain rail falls down. On the more serious scale, when we can’t get to hospital or a doctor’s surgery for an appointment or when we can’t manage by ourselves after being in hospital.
Now that we don’t live in big family groups, we can feel very isolated and alone. This is where Hornby Helpline steps in. It has become extremely difficult to find “odd job men” to fill in the gaps, and buses run less frequently.
